Unswept Sky
Monotypes on paper
30x30cm
A series of nine monotypes
Light outlines carve their way across layers of black ink, delineating the silhouettes of unmelted micrometeorites.
The title is in part a reference to the ancient Greek mosaic genre known as asarotos oikos or ‘unswept room’, which intricately depicted the ephemeral detritus of meals in mosaic form. Here the monotypes record the microscopic detritus of space, invisible specimens that can be discovered in unexpected contexts, including urban rooftops. Unmelted micrometeorites bear direct traces of their origins, and the particular specimens in Unswept Sky were found in sediments from the Indian Ocean.
